"Teslin Lake" means "long threadlike" waters in the local Tlingit tongue. The 70 mile
long body of crystal clear water provides access to many points of interest as most
of the lake lies in undisturbed, pristine wilderness. This lake is also famous for
its fishing. Lake trout are attracted to the "mudline" in june right near the village
of Teslin. Later, the trout travel to more southerly points along the lake.
Northern Pike, or "slough shark" can be found in Eagle Bay in great abundance. The reference to the shark family is not totally without merit. A pike will attack almost anything travelling through its waters, often, it seems, as if in rage. |
