About us

In 1998 our family - which consists of six members - moved to Teslin/Yukon, and began guiding fishing and canoe trips very shortly thereafter.
The business has been a delightful addition to the family as it has made it possible to meet people from literally all over the world, in a great setting and often under very entertaining circumstances!Doug the fishing guide is originally from Saskatchewan. He acquired a deep affection for the outdoors at a young age- or perhaps was born with it built right in. However, the hunting and fishing literature he read convinced him to go north and at age nineteen he started frequenting the Yukon.
He met his life partner and wife Birgit, while commercial fishing for whitefish in Lake Diefenbaker, Saskatchewan and their marriage resulted in four great kids who all enjoy fishing and various aspects of outdoor life.
Birgit, mother of four somehow finds time to raise four children in addition to running the Teslin Community College. She was born in southern Germany and emigrated to Canada in 1985 when she married the above-mentioned fisherman.
Not every woman would tolerate running water from the running stream, home-made electricity, and the edible procurements of a hunter/gatherer for as long as she has.
Joshua is the guy with the curly hair which he must have got from Doug, because he sure doesn't have it now! He's a great 17 year old with a fine sense of humour- a necessary quality for survival in this family! He loves to catch fish and chase girls.
Plans to go to Europe as soon as he's out of school.
Mattias astonished us all by mastering calculus by the age of ten. He really had an excellent grasp of it by then! He plays the clarinet, piano and now and again a fish. Academia look out!
Kit Carson, our third oldest son lives up to his name by being a totally energetic ball of fire. Not afraid to get wet, he often swims in the lake in places where his tender parents wouldn't think of it. This northern water is Cold!
Aiyana, the other girl in the family, enjoys comics, applying makeup to herself, and looking after the pets in the family. She is the only true Yukon native in the family and has endured mosquitoes, being rained on and tripping through dense undergrowth, tripping over fallen logs and all without a complaint. And she loves to catch a fish! Probably going to make a great wife for a fishing guide somewhere, or maybe a great fishing guide herself!
